Parting Shots Film and Animation Festival for High School Students


 
 
 

 Basic Rules and Guidelines

 
 
  1. Each entry must be postmarked by the April 7, 2009 deadline.
    Each entry must have a completed Entry Form and Copyright Notice as well. Send entries to: Jim Helmer / Ralph Broussard 1235 Mendocino Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95401
     
  2. Each school should send all submissions for each category (drama, comedy, etc.) on a mini-DV tape or a DVD. Multiple entries from one site can be placed on one tape or disk. Clearly label tapes or disks as to School and Titles. NOTE: All DVD's must be in DVD-Rom format with Quicktime files. Please, do not send films encoded as a DVD movie: these are lower quality and will suffer further loss of quality if used for the festival.   3. Although we do not have a time limit for pieces submitted, the festival organizers may limit the viewing of an individual film to six minutes at the presentation.
     
  4. There is a $5.00 entry fee for each individual film submitted. Checks should be made out to Parting Shots Film Festival.
     
  5. Each entry must be accompanied by a filled out entry form.
     
  6. It is the preference of the festival that copyright infringement be avoided if at all possible. It is also understood that certain projects may lend themselves to the use of copyrighted materials (music videos as an example). The festival wishes to highlight the originality of the student’s work and protect professional artist from infringement of their copyrighted materials. Thus, preference to all original work may be given over work that includes copyrighted material. Furthermore, the festival requires that all work submitted include a signed statement by the filmmaker as to the copyright status of the their work.   7. All submissions must be appropriate for viewing by a high school audience. Anything that would earn above a PG-13 rating will not be exhibited. Inappropriate language and activity includes use of profanity, vulgar or offensive language and gestures, and abusive language. The judges reserve the right to disqualify entries for inappropriateness.
     
  8. The work submitted must have been created during the last 2 years, in conjunction with a high school filmmaking or animation class. Previous entries may not participate.
     
  9. Festival screening night is May 7, 2009, 6:30pm at Santa Rosa High School.
